Mom's Banana Bread
This is a recipe that I got from my mother. It took me about one year from
the time of receiving it from her, to actually trying to make it. This was
one of my favorites as a kid and I believe after trying it a couple of times
now, I've got it.
Success Rating: 3 of 4
See if you can do better:
1/4 cup shortening (could be Crisco or margarine, I've been using unsalted
Land O'Lakes)
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
2/3 cup mashed bananas (more won't hurt, I use two whole bananas on the edge of rotten)
2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sour milk (don't know what the hell that means - I've always just used milk)
1/2 cup nuts (I've been using well crushed walnuts)
Cream shortening& sugar, beat egg and blend into mix, stir in banana, add
soda, salt, baking powder & flour to mix, add milk & nuts. Bake in loaf
pan @ 350 for about an hour. Getting the middle done is one hell of a challenge.
I uses a stoneware loaf pan, and a give it a quick spray of Pam or the like.
